Hi Etrecia, so tell us what your work involves?

ooba’s primary focus is home loans, as well as providing insurance (including building insurance, credit life insurance, short term insurance). We really care about empowering home buyers to have choices and make an informed decision when purchasing a property.

I’m a Provincial Sales Manager for the Inland Provinces (which include the N. Province, Gauteng East & South, & Mpumalanga). My main task is to lead the sales teams in the three Provinces to growth, including looking for new business opportunities. A huge part of our work is all about partnerships with other stakeholders in our world, like the banks and real estate agencies. It’s all about the growth of the business.

What’s ooba’s approach to sales?

What we do requires sales on a day-to-day basis. This is a part of the business. But what we do is more than just sales, as we also have partnerships with the banks and the estate agents and the attorneys. Working with all these different partners is a key part of our work too.

Sales can be stressful, but we know how to have fun and we have fun on a daily basis. And we like to celebrate success here.

Also, we invest a lot in our people and help them to develop in their career and keep becoming better sales consultants.

What do you look for in a good Home Loans Sales Consultant?

52% of all our applications come from first time home buyers, with an average age of 34. So successful sales people need to be able to relate to this generation and think like they think.

You must be confident and not be scared to knock at doors for sales. You need to be someone who is comfortable selling something to another person.

We can teach you the knowledge and skills you’ll need, but you need to have the right attitude and want to be successful.

How would you describe your management style?

For me, it’s about believing nothing is impossible. I think everyday matters and it’s about today (not yesterday or tomorrow), so it’s all about how you spend your time now. It’s important to help other people believe in themselves and take them to places they may not have been able to get to without your influence (and motivation).

What advice would you give to someone applying for a sales career at ooba?

ooba is 20 years old and the average employee tenure is between 9 to 10 years, so that shows people are happy and satisfied here. This is a safe place to work.
